Shall we begin the story of 153?

Simon Peter climbed aboard and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. (John 21:11)

While praying over the name and vision of our school, God brought to my heart the story of the fisherman Peter from John 21. On the shores of the Sea of Galilee, Peter had spent the whole night trying to catch fish but caught nothing. As he was preparing to give up and go ashore, Jesus approached him and said, “Cast your net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” When Peter obeyed Jesus’ word, he caught so many fish that his net began to break. The number of fish was exactly 153.

During a visit to Israel, a Jewish man shared with me that 153 represents all the different kinds of fish in the Sea of Galilee. This number deeply resonated with me. It seemed like the Lord was calling us to become fishermen who catch all kinds of people. The 153 fish represent diverse people from every nation—the whole world. The number 153 symbolizes the world of people created in the image of God, whom He “so loved,” as the Bible says. That is why we chose the name 153 World Christian School.

Our goal at 153 World Christian School is not merely to be an alternative to conventional exam-focused education but to be a school that values and nurtures the unique gifts God has given each student. Just as Peter obeyed Jesus and caught 153 fish, we pray that our students will confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and use their God-given talents to live abundantly—so abundantly that their “nets” might even break.

Would you entrust your precious “one fish” to our school?
